What did I think of the Drum Rudiment System?
One of the great aspects of the Drum Rudiment System is that the instructor, Lionel Duperron, constantly reminds you to think critically and do what’s comfortable for you. The Drum Rudiment System is great because it covers all 40 international drum rudiments. Everything is slowed down for you in the beginning of the video and it demonstrates each rudiment and exercise from a variety of camera angles.
Unfortunately the video doesn’t go into grip or motions too much, but it did emphasize the sequence of each rudiment and getting the sequence down. One thing I also didn’t like is that he didn’t give the name variations of each rudiment.

If I were starting drums all over again, would I use the Drum Rudiment System?
Yes and no. Parts of it are good if you are learning drums for the first time. I think a more thorough drum course, such as, Mike Michalkow’s Complete Drumming System or Learn and Master Drums with Dan Sherrill, would be better for a you, if you are a beginner. The Drum Rudiment System would be a great supplement to either of these drum courses.
If you only want to learn your rudiments, then this is a great drum course.

Would I use the Drum Rudiment System with my own students and if so, how?
I might recommend the Drum Rudiment System as a supplement to students who really want to explore the rudiments and how to apply them to the drum set. I will probably use some of the exercises, grooves, and fills in my lessons.

As a professional drummer, would I use the Drum Rudiment System now, and if so how?
Yes. I watched it and got a lot out of it. I spent an entire day looking at it. It was a great refresher for me and it showed me some great ideas in regards to how to apply the rudiments to the drum set. I will definitely revisit the Drum Rudiment System in the future.

How does the Drum Rudiment System compare to similar products?
There are many different drum rudiment DVD’s out there, but the Drum Rudiment System is the most thorough course that I’ve ever seen. Lionel Duperron goes really deep and applies every rudiment to the drums in a variety of ways.

Does the Drumming System function well on it’s own, or does one need the guidance of teacher, additional books, or additional videos?
When it comes to the rudiments, I think it’s really important to have a great drum teacher. Even with great drum video courses, there is no one replacement for a great drum teacher.
As a supplement to the Drum Rudiment System, I would highly recommend The Drummer’s Rudimental Reference Book by Dr. John Wooton.

Is it worth the price?
Yes. Only for once reason: the sheer quantity of information. There is a lot of stuff that you get with it.
On disc two he applied the rudiments to the drum sets for beginners, there are actually some very good ideas on this disc.
