I often deliver workplace mental health presentations. And in the process of preparing for these presentations, clients often ask me to include tips and hacks that their employees can use immediately to help them manage their stress. So I wanted to share five of these tips with you. Also, I want to let you know that these tips can be applied, whether you work remotely from home or you work in the office.

1. Meditate

Find time to silence your mind. It’s really important that we do that each day, and I’m a huge fan of meditation, but lunchtime can be a great time to do it because it’s your lunchtime. And even if you simply close your eyes and set a timer for five minutes, that can be what you need to help get you through the rest of the day. Also, there are apps like the Calm app that you can use to follow guided meditations.

And all you need to meditate is one thing, a place to sit and your attention on meditating. It’s that simple. So meditation is something that you can do.

2. Deep breathing

Take just a few minutes to do a deep breathing exercise. YouTube has so many videos on different ones that you can try. And just taking the time to become aware of your breath can be all. You need to calm yourself down from a stressful morning. And again, set you up for the rest of your day.

3. Be mindful when you eat.

Now, this is really important because it’s a tip for me even more than you because I have a bad habit of sitting at my computer, sometimes during my lunch break and just wolfing down a sandwich or salad or whatever, and looking at email at the same time. It’s really important that you and I get better at eating mindfully and just enjoying your food.

In fact, some people almost consider that a meditation practice in and of itself. So finding the time to eat is important. Eating is important, but doing it mindfully will really help you manage your stress.

And now I’d like to hear from you, do you eat mindfully at lunch or do you not? Please leave a comment below and let me know.

4. Go for a walk or exercise

You can go for a walk or get some exercise in your home or office with the door closed. Getting your body moving is so important and it’s even better if you can get it moving outside, especially as we navigate remote working and lockdowns and quarantines and all those things that come with a pandemic. So whenever you can find a way to get outside.

5. Read or listen to a podcast

Number five last but not least is to read a book or listen to a podcast, but make sure the book you read or podcasts you listen to is not one that teaches you something.

But one that just relaxes you using your lunch break intentionally is really, really important. And if you have that one hour or less to yourself to relax from work, it’s really important that you do everything you do to relax and rest from work.

I encourage you to make it a point to shut off your mobile device, if possible, during lunch and not look at social media and news and text alerts but just enjoy your time. And I guarantee you that if you get into a habit of using these types of tools during your lunch break, it’s going to set you up for a much more productive day at work.

Now, you know, five self-care hacks that you can start using on your lunch break, but what if you still have anxiety and loneliness? Well after the workday, even if you apply what you’ve learned in this video. Well, I have a course that I created for you called “How To Find Peace In Times Of Uncertainty”.
